In May, Artstübli – Kunst & Kultur will become my temporary studio. During the exhibition period, I will work on-site every day on a large-scale drawing developed in direct relation to the dimensions of the exhibition space, opening my working process to visitors. Over the course of several weeks, the art space will transform into a living working environment in which drawing can be experienced as a time-based and embodied practice. The project emerges in connection with my long-term work THE LIVING LINE, through which I understand drawing as movement, trace, and social form.

The starting point is my artistic practice situated between Breaking, performative research, and drawing. Physical movement is translated into line, while lines in turn become starting points for new encounters, collaborations, and transformations. Drawing appears here as an open process that continues to evolve across places, people, and time.

Over the duration of the exhibition, the space gradually develops into an active site of work and encounter. On most days, I will work on-site between 9:00 and 16:00. During these hours, visitors are welcome to enter the studio, observe the process directly, or even become part of it themselves. Visitors may register in advance or also join spontaneously to pose as a model for approximately 10 minutes. The chosen pose will then be integrated into the drawing in an abstracted form. People who are not based in Basel are also invited to send me a photograph of themselves in a pose.

A central component of the project is the 8th City Drop, which marks the conclusion of the exhibition. As part of the long-term project THE LIVING LINE | CITY DROPS, this drop will become the first special edition of the series. At the end of the exhibition, 32 fragments extracted from the large-scale drawing created on-site will be distributed throughout public space as autonomous artworks. People who find these works become part of a growing network that carries the drawings forward, documents them, and generates new generations through their reunification. In this way, The Living Line unfolds as a collective process within the urban public sphere.

As part of the accompanying program, public dance sessions will take place throughout the exhibition period. These open gatherings offer the opportunity to meet dancers from the local Breaking scene, train together, or simply observe. No registration is required.

As part of Atelier Ouverts on May 31, Timo Paris will present the works created during his residency and provide insight into the further development of the project on-site.
